Sleeping Lotus

Sleeping Lotus

by Li Xiangting —

This is the first recording of improvisational guqin music ever made in the West.

This is the first recording of improvisational guqin music ever made in the West.

The CD contains 11 serene guqin and xiao improvisational tracks and is the perfect complement to an interlude of relaxing, meditating or dreaming.

These tracks blossom like musical haiku, with each note capturing a world of emotion, each song bringing deep peace.

The guqin and xiao, or seven-stringed zither and bamboo flute, date back more than 3,000 years to the origins of Chinese music.

This is the first recording of improvisational guqin music ever made in the West.

Improvisational music, once an important part of guqin playing, died out over 1,000 years ago.
