This summer and fall, many hikers, campers, joggers and even swimmers will encounter some sort of bite or sting. A simple, lightweight homeopathic kit can, in most cases, alleviate the discomfort and swelling associated with these little annoyances. Homeopathic remedies are portable, effective, inexpensive and readily available.

The following list offers an example of first-line remedies to consider after being bitten or stung.

When stung by a wasp, hornet, mosquito, scorpion or spider, use Ledum palustre and apply cold to the area.

For itchy, stinging hives arising after a bee sting, accompanied by swollen eyes, lips and mouth, Urtica urens is in order. If signs of troubled breathing arise, seek emergency assistance and continue with the Urtica urens until help arrives.

Red ant bites require a dose of Apis mellifica, while black widow or brown recluse bites call for a dose of Lachesis.

Most snakebites require emergency attention! Coral snake bites can be treated with Lachesis mutans, while Golondrina is suggested for other snakebites while en route to an emergency facility.

If you are “bitten” by poison ivy, seek Rhus toxidendron in a hurry.

If it was cactus that got you, return to the Ledum palustre, repeating every 15 minutes until relieved; follow with Hypericum, twice daily, for two days to combat infection.

All remedies can be taken in 30C potency, using just two to three pellets under the tongue, and repeating three times a day. Remedies can be purchased at most health food stores.
